Other Natural Resources Classes
There are other Natural Resources classes happening, including summer school and partnerships with other organizations.
Boy Scouts are now eligible for school credit through NOPSC Natural Resources. Scouts can enroll any time, though preferred enrollment months are August for fall semester, January for spring semester, and May for summer; credits post in February, June, and August. The amount of credit is based on hours and documentation of work, where approximately 90 hours and accompanying documentation will equal 0.5 credits. The type of credit will default to ‘career and technical education’ (CTE), which is a graduation requirement for most schools. Scouts interested in science or English credit can inquire about options for these credits. This credit, which is for a class called ‘Natural Resources Options,’ is posted on a NOPSC transcript and mailed to each student’s local school at the end of each semester or summer.
Natural Resources Summer Elwha Field Course is for young people who enjoy being outdoors, want their education to be linked to real-world projects, and may be interested in future natural resources work or study. This class is weekdays, June 22 to July 10 (not July 3rd) and meets in Skills Center Room 206 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. For many days, class will be held in the field (near the Elwha River) and will start and end in room 206. Students who show sufficient learning will earn 0.5 credits in science, Career and Technical Education (CTE), or elective.
