Dear Boy Scouts, Scout Leaders and Families,
Through its six years in operation, NOPSC Natural Resources Program has provided students with hands-on, skill-based educational opportunities that meet student and community needs. While engaging in natural resource-related service-learning projects, students gain school credit, experience, and life and career skills.
Because NOPSC Natural Resources and Boy Scouts of America are very well-aligned in their missions to teach character, responsibility, citizenship, and lifelong learning, we are partnering to offer school credit to scouts.
To be eligible, scouts need to meet the following criteria.
- Scouts need to be enrolled in a Washington State school (public or private) or home schooled and living in Washington State.
- Scouts need to be in 9th through 12th grade – summer credit can be granted for students going into 9th grade.
- Complete at least 90 hours of BSA opportunities and accompanying documentation from the options listed on the syllabus/enrollment form within a semester or summer. Each 90 hours equals 0.5 credits.
- The type of credit will be ‘career and technical education’ (CTE), which is a graduation requirement for most schools. Scouts interested in science or English credit can inquire about options for these credits.
- This credit, which is for a class called ‘Natural Resources Options,’ is posted on a NOPSC transcript and mailed to each student’s local school at the end of each semester or summer.
