Welcome to the first step in a career in the exciting and fast-growing field of healthcare!
The Medical Careers Program prepares students for entry–level healthcare positions through hands-on learning. This class offers 3 high school credits that may be used for Elective, Career Training Education or Science (in Anatomy and Physiology) on your list of graduation requirements. Students in this course learn about the education, training and licensure process involved in becoming a healthcare worker such as a nurse, dental assistant, vet tech, and other interesting jobs. Students work in the classroom and in the community with local health professionals.
This course is also Washington State Health Department training center for Certified Nursing Assistants. Students successfully completing the nursing assistant pathway are eligible to take the WA Nursing Assistant Certification exam at the end of the program. Completing the Nursing Assistant training includes infectious disease training certification, CPR/First Aid training and the mandatory hours involvolved in state license application.
This course is College Tech Prep approved and articulates with a Washington State technical college to give successful students college credits for their work. Students who demonstrate proficiency of the college prep curriculum with a ‘B’ (3.0) higher, may earn college credit through the College Tech Prep registration process. A total of 10 Tech Prep credits are available.
Students will have opportunities to become involved in many exciting ommunity outreach events, volunteer work in local areas and leadership in the field of health care. Contact instructor for more information.
